Where snow calls and skiing adventures await

Zermatt is a winter fairytale that offers unlimited fun on snow. The Swiss village is the gateway to a sun-drenched world of glistening snow, magical mountain peaks and unforgettable winter adventures – on and off the slopes: A hike through snow-covered forests, a sled run or a snowshoe trek in the high alpine landscape promise rest for soul and spirit. But of course, what Zermatt is most famous for, is its extraordinary ski resort. It’s no coincidence that the Matterhorn Ski Paradise was named the best ski resort in the Alps for the fourth time by the Best Ski Resort Report 2023.

The ski area extends from the village of Zermatt at 1,600 m.a.s.l. to the highest point at Gobba di Rollin on 3,899 m.a.s.l. Because the Zermatts ski slopes are located at such high altitude, skiing is possible all year round. On the Swiss side, there are 200 km of pistes during the winter season and 36 km of these are specific freeride slopes for experienced skiers – while not groomed, but safe from natural hazards like avalanches. In winter, the ski area seamlessly connects with Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche in Italy, providing access to a total of 360 kilometers of ski slopes with the international ski pass.

The car-free village of Zermatt has been dedicated to a sustainable path for years. For instance, the snow groomers have been fuelled with Eco Speed Diesel for some time now, and pilot projects with alternative fuels such as hydrogen are now being considered. In the construction or replacement of facilities and buildings, a focus is placed on renewable energies. The area around the Theodul glacier, with its abundant hours of sunshine, is an ideal location for solar energy systems. Zermatt is very committed to preserve its most precious asset, the nature, by designating wildlife and forest protection zones, and embarking on renaturation projects.
