The Vitra Design Museum numbers among the world’s most prominent museums of design. It is dedicated to the research and presentation of design, past and present, and examines its relationship to architecture, art and everyday culture. In the main museum building by Frank Gehry, the museum annually mounts two major temporary exhibitions. In conjunction with our alternating exhibitions, the Vitra Design Museum offers a variety of workshops and guided tours.

From 23 March to 1 September 2024, a captivating new exhibition will be presented: “Transform! Designing the Future of Energy”.

The exhibition addresses current questions concerning the production of energy. Energy as the main driving force of society; it is political, invisible, omnipresent. All of the buildings, infrastructure and products related to the generation, distribution and utilization of energy are created by human beings. Consequently, design plays a key role in the current transition to renewable energy. The exhibition “Transform!” shines a light on the transformation of the energy sector from the perspective of design: from everyday products that use renewable energy to the design of solar houses and wind power stations; from smart mobility systems to futuristic visions of self-sufficient cities. What are the criteria for designing an energy-efficient product? How can design contribute to an increase in the use of renewable energy sources? How can industry, government policies and people in general help to achieve the transition to a sustainable future?

Once on the Vitra Campus, it is a great opportunity to combine the visit of the museum with a guided architectural tour of the campus and also see the Vitra Haus with the stunning interior and Vitra furniture.
