The destination Zermatt – Matterhorn is home to the world’s first World Cup downhill race that crosses a national border. Two women’s and two men’s downhill races will take place in Zermatt/Cervinia this year. This will herald the start of the season for the speed athletes.
The top downhill skiers from around the world make the daring descent, with the Matterhorn constantly in their sights. While the finish is in Cervinia in Italy, the start is above Zermatt at 3,800 meters, making the Matterhorn Cervino World Cup races the highest downhill race in the Ski World Cup!
La Gran Becca – means the big peak in local dialect – is the down hill run with no limits. The run is drawn by the former Swiss skier Didier Défago.
