Wednesday 28 June 2023 marked the launch of the first episode of the English version of ‘Blum’, a brand new audio thriller set in Switzerland. With over half a million listens and an array of awards, the original version of this gripping podcast has already garnered praise in the Spanish-speaking world.

The mystery begins when Clara Torres, an Art History student consumed by the enigmatic avant-garde painter Ursula Blum, vanishes without a trace. Five years later, journalist Emma Clark embarks on a journey to Switzerland, determined to discover the truth behind both women and share her findings through a spellbinding podcast narration.

Blum masterfully adopts the format of an investigative podcast, ingeniously blurring the line between fact and fiction against a backdrop of real historical, social, and geographic elements. It keeps listeners on the edge of their seats, provoking a sense of uncertainty that lingers long after the final episode.

The creators behind this extraordinary story, Manuel Bartual and Carmen Pacheco, travelled to Switzerland, exploring nine enchanting cities. From breathtaking landscapes to awe-inspiring art museums, they travelled by train, uncovering the country’s hidden gems. Inspired by their experiences, Bartual and Pacheco transformed their adventure into a heart-stopping thriller presented in the form of a fictional podcast.

Blum was produced by El Extraordinario, and a special collaboration with Switzerland Tourism has helped bring Ursula Blum to life and made this story possible. The organisation Art Museums of Switzerland, a partner of Switzerland Tourism, also played an important role in making of the podcast.

‘Blum is an example how Switzerland Tourism is constantly working on different and innovative ways to promote Switzerland as a travel and holiday destination in the UK and Ireland,’ says Alex Herrmann, Director of Switzerland Tourism UK & Ireland.

The English version of Blum is an adaptation of the multi-award-winning Spanish podcast of the same name launched in 2022. The eight-part series is now available to stream on all major podcast platforms.
