2024
April | A Swiss April awakening.
The next month is an exciting one, as we rev up for what looks set to be THE event of the season, the Detour Discotheque atop the mighty Schilthorn. Glacier 3000 announces good news, while St. Moritz celebrates all things art with a focus on environmental issues. Also new is the fairytale Märchen Hotel in central Switzerland.
March-ing into spring.
March brings with it spring skiing, and where better than the Matterhorn Ski Paradise, Europe’s highest ski area? Also well worth a visit this spring are Lausanne, which has launched four new gourmet tours and Bern, which stuns this time of year thanks to its vibrant cherry blossoms. And over in London, the Royal Academy has just opened its new exhibition celebrating the influential 18th-century Swiss painter Angelica Kauffmann.
February | Swiss bliss in the lead-up to spring.
This month is known as the fifth season in Switzerland; the few weeks of the year when carnival traditions take over! Another one-of-a-kind Swiss experience is a husky sleigh ride in Zermatt with breath-taking views of the Matterhorn. Lastly, this month marks the 100th anniversary of the Parsenn Derby, one of the country’s oldest ski races, which will take place on 29 February.
January | Fresh winter fun.
We’re thrilled to report that winter is in full swing in Switzerland, with resorts across the coun‐try enjoying optimum ski conditions! This season, we are encouraging visitors to experience skiing in fun new ways, with sunrise skiing now available in Saas-Fee and solar-panelled cross-country skiing in Les Diablerets and much more also including activities for non-skiers!
2023
December | Christmas tidings from Switzerland.
Not long now until Christmas! New in Switzerland this month is new winter specials at Gstaad’s piste-side pop-up ‘The Offcut Food Truck’, a brand new gondola in the Region Dents du Midi, the opening of the opulent Mandarin Oriental Savoy in Zurich and two quirky new winter activities: raclette rafting in Interlaken and gondola karaoke in Grindelwald!
November | Switzerland and winter? It’s a perfect match.
Believe it or not, November is here, and with it, the highest Christmas market in Europe, Bern’s annual onion festival, two new hotels in Mürren and Nendaz about to open for their first full winter season, a new viewing platform on First, and the new Cotton Club in Andermatt, which is revving up for a winter of fine dining and après!
October | It’s all about autumn.
Exciting news awaits in October. The opening of the CERN Science Gateway, or the first edition of the Raclette World Championships in Valais, something to suit every taste! Let’s not forget that cold days are approaching…Engelberg-Titlis will be the first Swiss ski resort to open this winter, where a group media trip will be organized in February 2024.
September | Not long now till winter.
Before winter takes over, there is still time to enjoy all the activities on offer during the glorious autumn months. Think of hikes and train rides through colourful landscapes and total immersion in cultural activities such as concerts at the KKL Lucerne, a stay at the reopened Grace La Margna Hotel in St Moritz or a day at its annual mountain race for vintage cars.
August | Summer vibes all round.
August is here and summer is well under way: be it dipping toes in fountains in Swiss city centres, hike in mysterious canyons or follow the classic Via Alpina route. On the transport front, this month sees the 125th anniversary of the Gornergrat, and visitors may catch a glimpse of a new green Swisstainable locomotive on the tracks…
June | Keep cool and beat the heat.
On these hot summer days, it’s essential to keep your energy up. New experiences at the Hotel LuganoDante, with the Rigi Railway, and in Zermatt open in June, just in time for summer! There are plenty of other activities for car and wine lovers to discover this month.
May | Switzerland’s got you covered.
In May, you can expect new carriages on Mount Pilatus, special events for the 150th anniversary of the operating boat company CGN, opening of the 15th edition of the Bex & Arts Triennial in Bex and many cycling races in the coming months. Rest assured, Switzerland’s got it covered.
April | Switzerland rides into spring.
He did it again! For the third time, our ambassador Roger Federer is supporting Switzerland Tourism, this time accompanied by comedian Trevor Noah, promoting our beautiful country in a new campaign video. Watch the full film by clicking on the link in our newsletter.
March | Winter in Switzerland is back (not).
Spring and Easter are just around the corner! It’s the perfect time of the year for a floral excursion in Ticino. Museums are home of memorable exhibitions, such as ‘The Mystery of Banksy: A Genius Mind’ in Zürich or ‘A World Elsewhere’ by Will Martyr in Gstaad. Some tips will help visitors save some money and make to most out of their next trip to Switzerland.
February | Spring? Not quite yet.
There is a hint of spring in the air! Learn more about Chalandamarz, a spring tradition in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. However, the ski season is still going strong, with our snowticker compiling all the information snow enthusiasts are looking for. December | Walking in a S'(winter wonder)land.
Christmas has arrived and with it lots of exciting upcoming events and openings in Switzerland this and beginning of next year. Hotel Fiescherblick in Grindelwald will soon open its doors, Crans-Montana x Revival Records will host a music event and the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing will be completed spring 2023. Bobsleighung in St. Moritz and the Gornergrat Railway both celebrate their 125th anniversary 2023 – Happy Birthday. Merry Christmas!
November | Winter in Switzerland – we can’t wait.
Winter is around the corner and Switzerland has so much to offer! Whether skiing down the new black slope on Glacier 3000, snowshoeing on the Gantrischli Trail, exploring the LoveTrail in Adelboden or showing off your freestyle moves in the Free-60 Natural Terrain Park in LAAX. With the winter season coming, Hotel Noël and Eringer Hotel 4 Vallées open their doors and Victorinox celebrates its 125th birthday.
October | A burst of colours – Swiss made.
Autumn has arrived and with it lots of exciting activities and events. Zurich Art Weekend is around the corner, Geneva will host the RE-Luxury event, the (W)Interlaken Card ensures an unforgettable winter experience, the GToS App uses the newest technology and in a few weeks the GoldenPass Express will take passengers directly from Montreux to Interlaken. Switzerland is too far away? SKATE at Somerset House invites guests to experience a Swiss winter in London.
September | The sandwich position.
Where better to enjoy the golden autumn than in Switzerland? Enjoy our nature spas, explore the Bern Region by e-bike, take an autumn stroll and enjoy a fondue on board the cheesemaker’s train. August | Summer is still out there.
The summer season in Switzerland is not over yet. There is still time to enjoy the country in its summer beauty. How do you feel about a Grappa Tasting in Ticino? Try this or any of the other activities and festivals presented in this newsletter.
July | Swiss Summer escapes.
Switzerland Tourism is introducing active breaks including the new 1291 e-bike route (Lucerne), slow tourism in Saint-Luc (Valais), canyoning in Ticino, the chance to race against Swiss road cyclist Fabian Cancellara, and the new Nomady platform where you can book unique stays with Million Stars Hotels.
May | Cruising through summer in Switzerland.
Switzerland Tourism is introducing the new Grand Tour of Switzerland App, 50 magical villages worth a visit, the opening of Platform 10 and the Trauffer World hotel and experience world. Or find out more about the highlights of 175th railway history in Switzerland.
April | The Grand Tour of Switzerland.
Travelling between the UK and Switzerland is back to normal. Following the ‘no drama’ film last year Switzerland Tourism is back with a sequel with starring brand ambassador and American actress Anne Hathaway promoting the Grand Tour of Switzerland. March | Spring into summer in Switzerland.
Switzerland Tourism’s summer media booklet is out and providing lots of exciting news for the coming season. The highlights include the launch of Switzerland’s first certified hiking trail, the ViaBerna, and the 175 anniversary of the Swiss railway. Switzerland Tourism also launched this year’s 100% Women initiative. Travelling between the UK and Switzerland is now possible without any Passenger Locator Forms or Covid tests.
February | Say Yes to Skiing in Switzerland.
Travelling from the UK to Switzerland and back is now possible without having to take any Covid tests. The winter season in Switzerland is not over yet, there is still time to enjoy hitting the slopes or try any of the other activities presented in this newsletter. Switzerland Tourism also announces to be exhibiting at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and will be present at IMM in March.
