The Consulate General of Switzerland in San Francisco will present SETTIMANE TICINESI, a series of events highlighting Switzerland’s Italian speaking Canton of Ticino from October 14-28, 2022

The core of SETTIMANE TICINESI will be two photo exhibitions on immigration of Ticino to California by Swiss artist Flavia Leuenberger Ceppi, curated and designed by San Francisco-based photographer Thomas Heinser. “Swiss Rocks” (Oct 14 – Dec 16) and “Moghegno-Monterey” (Oct 16 – Nov 10) will showcase immigrant families from Ticino and their native lands in the spectacular Bavona Valley. Families of first, second, and third generations are portrayed in their American home and work environment while putting their Swiss roots on display. The photographs also highlight the contrast between the urban development of San Francisco and the Bay Area and the natural beauty the emigrants left behind. Both exhibitions are organized by the Consulate General of Switzerland and supported by the Canton of Ticino and Presence Switzerland.

These works will share the exhibition space with Swiss artist Marc Lee’s project “Used to Be My Home Too”, hosted by Swissnex in San Francisco, an exploration of how humans have affected the Earth’s biodiversity. This installation will allow visitors to experience a large-scale, visual database of flora and fauna from around the world, including Ticino.

All exhibitions will take place at Switzerland at Pier 17, outdoors and indoors, next door to the Exploratorium, where the Consulate General of Switzerland is located.

But the SETTIMANE TICINESI will go beyond this, showcasing how the canton Ticino has developed since these early days into a hub of innovation, culture, sustainable tourism and culinary experiences, highlighting the following areas:

Literature:
Fabiano Alborghetti, winner of the 2018 Swiss Literature Award, and Fabio Andina, winner of the Swiss television “Prix du public” in 2018 will present their work at the Litquake Literature Festival, San Francisco’s longest running literature event, on October 15 at the Italian Cultural Institute.

Film:
The Roxie Theater will show Ticino as a backdrop of two stunning contemporary films, Atlas (2021) by Niccolò Castelli and Monte Verità (2021) by Stefan Jäger, on October 18.

Sustainable Tourism:
Ticino Tourism
