Switzerland continues to reach new peaks in popularity in the United States. According to tourism data from the last decade, visitor numbers from the U.S. to Switzerland grew by over 60%.
Final 2019 figures show an increase of nearly 10% in U.S. arrivals in Switzerland in 2019, for a total of 1,1154,155. The number of overnight stays was 2.47 million, an increase of 9.8% compared to 2018*.
“We are thrilled that the United States cement their position as Switzerland’s most important long-haul market. With a growth of almost 10% for the third year running we not only see more and more Americans visit Switzerland, they also travel to every corner of our beautiful country. Regions which did exceptionally well are the Italian speaking region Ticino in the South of Switzerland (+19.2%) as well as the Lake Geneva Region (+22.7%).” says Claudio Zemp, Director Americas of Switzerland Tourism.
Two-thirds of all visitors from U.S.A travel to Switzerland during the summer months. Switzerland Tourism’s campaign theme in 2020 is “I need Switzerland”, which emphasizes Switzerland’s versatility as a destination and ability to fulfill all desire from adventures in the untouched nature to cultural activities in the city or epicurean experiences.
