Switzerland Tourism will relocate its Santa Monica office to downtown San Francisco on July 1.

ST’s West Coast office was already in San Francisco from 1947 to 1993, and was then moved to Los Angeles due to the better economic situation in Southern California at that time. The latest economic developments in and around San Francisco, the decision of Swiss International Air Lines to reopen San Francisco as a gateway a few years ago, and now further increase of the seat capacity with the introduction of the Boeing 777, and the opportunity to be part of the Swiss Consulate and other Swiss organizations under one roof, have led ST to again decide for San Francisco as the preferred location for an office to cover the Western U.S.

San Francisco is closer to visit many key tour operator and agency contacts in Oregon and Washington, and almost the same distance to Nevada and Colorado.

The local team led by manager Mirko Capodanno and a yet to be appointed media colleague, as well as the management of ST for North America will continue to frequently visit the LA area and Southern California to meet with travel trade or media contacts, as well as for ST events as well as conferences and other travel-related events. Unfortunately, the current media coordinator Maja Gartmann, has decided not to move to San Francisco and will leave ST by the end of June to return to Switzerland.

The recent numbers of American visitors to Switzerland support a positive trend that has been developing over the past five years: Since 2010, Switzerland has been able to report a continuous increase in overnights from the U.S. every year, from roughly1,400,000 to almost 1,740,000 making 2015 the best year in overnights for the U.S. since 2001.
