New Platform to Offer an Array of Robust Itineraries for Immersive Travel Experiences to Take Discerning Travelers from Inspiration to Booking

May 20, 2015 (New York and San Francisco) – AFAR Media today announced its newest platform, AFAR Journeys, with its exclusive launch partner Switzerland Tourism. Going well beyond the traditional model of a travel magazine, AFAR Journeys not only allows you to learn about a destination and inspires you to visit, but provides you with a robust itinerary that can then be customized and booked with a member of AFAR’s Travel Advisory Council to suit your desires.

The program is exclusively launching with Switzerland Tourism and will feature 10 itineraries centered around unique trips that can be taken during the summer and fall months. Following launch, the travel platform will offer additional itineraries for select destinations based on various themes and points of interest – from culinary and culture, to music, shopping, and beyond. Itineraries will be customized and booked with members of AFAR’s Travel Advisory Council (TAC), an exclusive board of travel advisors and other travel experts all vetted by the AFAR team for their expertise and deep knowledge of the travel industry.

“AFAR Journeys is a vision long shared by our team that we are thrilled to debut alongside a great partner with Switzerland Tourism,” said Joe Diaz, co-founder of AFAR Media. “We launched AFAR almost six years ago with the mission to inspire people to have deeper and richer travel experiences. With this launch, we can now take travelers who share our passion for truly valuable experiences, all the way from that inspiration stage to the actual booking.”

AFAR’s partnership with Switzerland Tourism came together for this launch when the tourism bureau asked the media company to create a unique campaign that would go deeper than any other marketing they have done with a publication. Switzerland increased its annual ad spend substantially to create a budget exclusively for AFAR to launch this new platform. The partnership will run through July 31st before opening up to other destinations. This marks one of the largest investments Switzerland has recently made with one American media outlet.

“With the strong American dollar, we are seeing a lot of excitement and a further increased interest in international travel from Americans, on top of the over 20% growth rate of U.S. travel to Switzerland over the last five years,” said Alex Herrmann, Director Americas at Switzerland Tourism. “For this, plus to launch our recently announced “ Grand Tour of Switzerland” and “ Grand Train Tour of Switzerland”, we wanted to put Switzerland top of mind on the list of travel destinations for Americans to consider visiting this summer, and knew that AFAR would be able to capture the true essence of our country. We are excited about the launch of AFAR Journeys and proud to be serving as AFAR’s exclusive launch partner for this great new platform.”

AFAR Journeys was created in response to the tremendous success of AFAR Experiences – a group travel event series that takes AFAR readers to various destinations with the AFAR editorial team and its founders, for exclusive and unique travel experiences you often are unable to access on your own. The new booking platform will provide travelers the opportunity to participate and immerse themselves in incredible experiences on their own time, with the trusted help and guidance of the AFAR team.

Travelers can begin planning with AFAR Journeys today, with rates for individual itineraries ranging from $5,000 – $10,000 per person. To learn more about how to create and book a customized trip through the platform, visit afar.com/journeys.
