National Geographic Travel today announced the launch of its first-ever interactive digital map, which showcases 50 of the most transformative experiences in Switzerland. The map, photo galleries and On Assignment blog posts are part of a new custom editorial hub featuring the many destinations and attractions that make up Switzerland’s Grand Tour and Grand Train Tour. The hub can be accessed via nationalgeographic.com/switzerland.

The Grand Tour is a newly launched 1,000-mile route to explore the highlights of Switzerland in one single tour. The Grand Tour map, created in partnership with Switzerland Tourism, immerses users in an interactive experience along both car and rail routes. Each point of interest along the routes is populated with text and photographs detailing the experience. Users can also click on different categories — such as food & drink, attractions, activities and events — to see the various ways to experience Switzerland’s Grand Tour.

“We are really proud of this project. Our editorial team has wanted to create an interactive map like this for a long time, and Switzerland is the perfect country to showcase in a map filled with beautiful imagery,” said Andrea Leitch, digital director, National Geographic Travel. “We believe this will be the ultimate tool for consumers looking to plan their own personalized getaway to Switzerland.”

The Grand Tour of Switzerland is an ideal match for the interactive map project. The 1000 miles include iconic spots and hidden gems and covers the most beautiful parts of the country. Travelers can tailor the route according to their needs, do all or just parts of it, and travel by various forms of transport — car, train, motorcycle or bike.

“National Geographic Travel has been our partner for successful marketing campaigns in North America for a number of years, and this latest project is a truly innovative way to showcase the beauty and diversity of Switzerland along the Grand Tour and the Grand Train Tour,” said Alex Herrmann, director Americas, Switzerland Tourism.
