Tampa – The excitement builds as Tampa International Airport prepares for its first nonstop flight to Zurich, Switzerland on Edelweiss Air on May 25. To mark this momentous occasion, a month-long celebration of Swiss culture is planned for airport guests with special food tastings and entertainment every Friday in May.

“This is a milestone for Tampa Bay,” said Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano. “It’s the airport’s first new nonstop flight to mainland Europe in years. By opening this door to Zurich, a city that that offers easy connections to destinations throughout Europe, Asia and the Middle East, we’re creating exciting new tourism and business opportunities for the entire Tampa Bay region.”

The first Swiss Month event is set for Friday, May 4, from 4 to 6 p.m., with Alpine Echo performing traditional music on an alphorn accompanied by cow bells. There will be a sampling of chocolates from 5 to 6 p.m., special giveaways, and of course, plenty of yodeling.

On May 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. the agenda includes entertainment and a sampling of Swiss cheeses, breads and pastries beginning at 5 p.m. On May 18, performances will be followed by a cheese and chocolate fondue tasting.

The much anticipated grand finale comes May 25 when the first nonstop flight between Tampa and Zurich touches down at TPA. We’re rolling out the red carpet, and a sandy beach, for our first guests arriving from Zurich. Lucky travelers on the inaugural departing flight will enjoy a party at the gate with more treats and a little taste of Switzerland.

Everyone is welcome to take part in Swiss Month – no passports necessary!

Festivities take place in the main terminal, Level 3 between the shuttles to Airsides A and C.
